Ruby Miller-Gootnick, LMSW
I work with adolescents and adults across a range of life stages, including many young adults navigating transitions, uncertainty, challenges in their relationships, and questions of identity. My style is warm, curious, active, and direct, with room for both humor and seriousness. I listen closely, ask questions, and draw connections, so that clients feel both understood and thoughtfully challenged. Before becoming a therapist I spent nearly a decade teaching middle school. What I most loved were the moments where I could sit with a student, listen carefully, hear what was really going on, and help them work through it. That part of teaching ultimately led me to become a therapist.
My approach is psychodynamic and strengths-based, grounded in the belief that clients know themselves best. At the same time, there can be a real gap between understanding ourselves and making the changes we want to make. Therapy offers space to look honestly at what may be getting in the way, understand the patterns we fall into, and draw on the strengths we already have to begin closing the gap.
